The Lethbridge Bulls are pleased to announce the signing of right-handed pitcher Shaye McTavish from the University of Mary, an NCAA Division II school in Bismarck, North Dakota. McTavish is a hometown product, born and raised in Lethbridge. McTavish says he is looking forward to living his childhood dream of wearing the Lethbridge Bulls uniform.
“Growing up as a young kid in Lethbridge, I always went to the Bulls games. It was always a dream of mine to play for the Bulls watching them growing up, now I’ve got the opportunity to pursue that dream.”
Several plays from the University of Mary are signed to WCBL franchises for the 2022 season, including infielder Kalem Haney inked with the Bulls. Fellow Marauders Noah Hull and Mike Poulson have signed with Sylvan Lake. McTavish says he is looking forward to seeing his college teammates in the summertime.
“It’ll be exciting to extend the bonds we’re going to share together here and extend them into summer. I think it will be a good summer and will strengthen us as team mates into the future.”
Shaye will not be the first McTavish to don the Bulls uniform. Shaye’s father, Les, pitched for the Bulls before becoming a coach with Lethbridge that launched a coaching career that has seen him become the head coach of the Vauxhall Academy Jets. Shaye says he is looking forward to experiencing what he has heard about in his father’s stories.
“My dad, he coached the Bulls at a very young age and he was always telling me stories about the road trips, the games, the environments and stuff like that. That was always exciting to hear those stories and now I get to actually play in those situations and experience those stories. So, I’m very excited for that.”
