The Bulls improved to 3-0 to start the WMBL season on Monday. The Bulls spoiled Medicine Hat’s home opener with a 5-1 win in front of a nearly sold out crowd at Athletic Park. Second year pitcher Luc Hebert was outstanding going 6 strong innings without surrendering a run. The bullpen was able to secure the win. Ben Kennedy and Chris Stodolka pitched scoreless innings in the 7th and 8th innings respectively. Veteran Jake Hansen got into a little bit of trouble in the 9th, but was able to dig deep and finish the game giving up Medicine Hat’s lone run on the evening.
The Bulls jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a Bretton Gouthro infield single. The score remained the same until the Bulls offense finally broke out in the top of the 9th scoring 4 more runs off of three different Medicine Hat relievers. The Mavericks made it interesting in the bottom of the 9th, loading the bases with no out. Hansen was able to secure the victory however, the game ending on Travis Steinke’s third runner caught stealing on the evening.
Coach MacDonald had this to say about the Bulls start to the season "our pitching and defense has been outstanding so far this season. We are still waiting for the bats to come alive, but I can see that we are starting to get more comfortable at the plate."
The Bulls will look to continue their great start to the season Tuesday evening against Medicine Hat at Spitz Stadium. Game time is at 7:05pm.
