Travis Steinke a native of Red Deer, Alberta will be the subject of our player profile this week. Steinke started his college career like many Bulls, in Lethbridge at the Prairie Baseball Academy. Under head coach Todd Hubka, Steinke evolved into an impact player. Steinke's big body, calm demeanor, and ability to speak his mind have helped him establish a leadership role on every team he has played on. Last year with the Bulls, Steinke got off to a little bit of a slow start, but finished strong to post a .258 batting average, 5 HR, 9 2B, and 19 RBI's for the season. Steinke is currently attending the University of Arkansas at Monticello where he is in his second season playing ball.
This season Steinke admits he will be going in with a little bit different mindset. " I know I am going to have a leadership role in the clubhouse this summer as one of the older guys in the room. I want to provide a good model for the younger players around me, and help them improve." Steinke has seen some player's come and go, but there is a reason he is back for his 4th summer with this team. " Playing for the Bulls has been a great experience. The friends I've made here will be my friends forever. This truly is a family and I can't stress the amount of pride I get from being able to represent this ball club." The Bulls are happy to have Travis back as well, and fans can look forward to seeing him behind the plate at Bulls games, and hopefully knocking some balls out of the park this summer. Check back next week when we profile another Bulls player in 2015.
