The Lethbridge Bulls have completed their opening week which saw them play 5 road games. With two wins to start the 2014 season in Edmonton and a victory over the Swift Current Indians in the road trip finale, the Bulls bring a 3-2 record home to Spitz Stadium. The home opener goes on Friday against the rival Medicine Hat Mavericks.
The game in Swift Current saw the Bulls rally from a 6-1 deficit to come out on top in the 8-7 win. Five pitchers combined to give up zero earned runs, obviously highlighting a few miscues allowing the Indians to get ahead early and stay in the game. Kyle Olliges, Louisville, KY, got the start but lasted only two innings. Luc Herbert, Cocogna, NB, followed and was credited with the win after 2 scoreless frames. Kregg Snook, Cypress, Texas threw 3 scoreless innings before yielding to Sean Harvie, Kennetcook, NS who gave up one unearned run. Jake Hansen, Fort Macleod, AB, got the save with a 1-2-3 ninth.
The offense was highlighted by Nolan Bumstead's 1-3 night with the ht being a 3 RBI home run in the 5th to tie the game. Mitch Dornblut, Surrey, BC, had a 3-5 night and scored the eventual winning run in the 7th. Kade Billeaudeaux, Welsh, LA, also had a multi-hit game (2-4).
The home opener goes on Friday night at 7:05 and is presented by Realtor Kevin Gregus of Royal Lepage South Country. The first 400 people through the gates will receive the Bulls 2014 Souvenir Magnet Schedule. Bulls will send LHP Scott Cone (1-0, 5 IP, 0.00 ERA) from Glenwood, Austrailia to the mound in search of his 2nd win of the season. Tickets for the game are available on bullsbaseball.com or at the Bulls office at Spitz Stadium.
