Bulls Finish 2-3 on Ft. McMurray Road Trip

06/20/2017 10:49 AM -

The Bulls finished up a five game road trip on Sunday afternoon in Fort McMurray. It was not the best trip as the boys went 2-3 to put them at 9-5 on the season. The boys struggled to consistently hit the ball, and it showed in the scores of the games in Fort McMurray. This is the first stretch of adversity the Bulls have faced in 2017, and it will be exciting to see if they can turn it around this week with 3 straight games against the Brooks Bombers, starting tonight at 7:05pm in Brooks.

The boys started off the trip with a great 3-1 victory in Edmonton against the Prospects. Big right handed pitcher Greg Hollman turned in a great start for the Bulls going 6 innings, surrendering 8 hits, 1 earned run, walking none and striking out 2 Prospect batter's. Dawson Moser pitched two scoreless innings and Chris Stodolka picked up the save in relief.

The Bulls hit the road on Friday morning continuing 5+ hours from Edmonton to Fort McMurray. Friday night was a really tough game for the Bulls as they were blown out 14-1 by the Giants. It was a much different Giants team than the one that the Bulls swept on opening weekend. Credit has to be given to how well Fort McMurray played all weekend. Their starting pitching was strong, they played great defense and hit when they needed to. Saturday was a lot of the same. The Giants scored early in game 1 on Saturday afternoon, and the Bulls could never get themselves back into it dropping game two of the series 7-3. In the nightcap, the Bulls fought back with a 3 run top of the 9th inning to salvage a 7-6 victory and even their record at 2-2 on the trip. Sunday was a similar story as the Bulls struggled mightily all afternoon at the plate. Ultimately the Bulls ended up losing 4-2 after another attempted comeback in the 9th inning. All in all it was a very frustrating weekend for the coaching staff and the players. The Bulls now sit with a 9-5 record, only half a game back of the Okotoks Dawgs for first place in the West Division.

The WMBL can be a very unpredictable league from game to game, and any team can win on any night. The Bulls will surely bounce back from this bump in the road. Tuesday evening the team gets to hit in the friendly confines of the Brooks Bombers home field. On the opening night of the season the Bulls put up 18 runs on 20 hits in that stadium. Let's hope tonight's game can get the team back on track.

The next home action for the Bulls is this weekend. The team hosts the same Brooks Bombers at Spitz Stadium on Thursday and Friday night. Saturday the Bulls host the Okotoks Dawgs starting at 7:05pm. Please come on out and support the team, tickets can be purchased online here, or by calling the Spitz Stadium office at 403-320-2025.
