Bulls Bounce Back With a 14-7 Win Over Regina

06/11/2016 6:30 PM -

After a tough loss in Yorkton on Friday night the Bulls bounced back in impressive fashion Saturday afternoon in Regina. The boys pounded out 21 hits on the afternoon cruising to a 14-7 victory over the Regina Red Sox. The Bulls are now 4-1 on their 6 game Saskatchewan road trip. They will finish up the trip tomorrow afternoon when they take on the Red Sox again.

Second year Bulls pitcher Pat Kelley started on the mound for the Bulls on Saturday afternoon. Kelley was excellent in his first 3 innings, striking out 6 of the 9 batters he faced. Kelley got into some trouble in the bottom of the 5th inning capped by a 3 run homerun from Regina catcher Jake Howard. After 5 innings the Bulls saw their 6-1 lead evaporate and turn into a 7-6 ball game for Regina. The bullpen really stepped up and threw up zeros the rest of the way for the Bulls. Kregg Snook finished the 5th inning, followed by a scoreless inning from Tanner Dalton. Matt Beaton continued his great start to the season by throwing the 7th and 8th innings. Beaton gave up 2 hits and struck out 2 Red Sox hitters. Caleb Norton finished up the game stranding a runner at 3rd base and striking out two of his own. The pitching staff combined to strike out 13 Red Sox batters on the day, but also surrendered 16 hits on a very hitter friendly day in Regina.

After struggling at the plate on Friday night in Yorkton the Bulls put on a beautiful display of hitting Saturday afternoon. 7 of the 9 starters had multi-hit days including 5 hitters with 3 hits a piece. Ryan Pouwells was 3-6 with 2 runs scored, Mitch Dornblut was also 3-6 with 3 RBI’s hitting directly behind Pouwells. Brock Frentzel was 3-4 with 3 runs scored and 2 RBI’s. Mike Moffat and Lachlan Mayo also had 3 hits on the afternoon. All told the Bulls only had two extra base hits, doubles by Dornblut and Travis Steinke. The hitters changed their approach from last night, and hit line drive singles to all fields on Saturday. The Bulls will need to continue with that approach on Sunday as they will look to cap of a successful road trip with a win.

Game time tomorrow will be 2:05pm.
