5-4 victory over Melville Mills..On Fire!

06/10/2016 2:26 PM -

Jared Kennedy took the ball in the bottom of the first inning for the Bulls game 3 of 6 on the road against Melville Millionaires. Pitching against a tough Melville lineup, Kennedy was taken out in the 4th inning. Although his outing was short lived, Jared racked up 8 strikeouts and had 2 earned runs against. A small strike zone made it tough to be consistent for the long haul. His nasty change-up kept Melville hitters off balance for the majority of his outing. Due to a limited pitch count, Kennedy was dismissed after 4 full innings for mid reliever Landon Bourassa. Bourassa completely shut down the Mills offensive unit by striking out 3 in 3 innings of work with 0 runs let in. His pinpoint location was the key to his success yesterday Bourassa stated after he shook hands with his teammates in the top of the 8th. Matt Beaton took over the bottom of the 8th with his 88-90 mph fastball. Hitters were simply overmatched by the 6’4, 230 lb. set-up chucker. He recorded 2 strikeouts with 3 hitters up and 3 hitters down. The performance of the night would unquestionably go to submarine pitcher Caleb Norton. Beginning the bottom of the 9th nothing seemed to have gone his way from weak infield singles, to bloopers over infielders heads to a very tight strike zone. This did not seem to bother him when the pressure got intense with Melville’s tying run at third and game winning run at second with one out. Norton dug into his bag of tricks and induced a weak ground ball right to him for the 1-3 put out, keeping both runners from advancing. The next hitter was on a 3-2 count and Norton throws his filthy change-up for a swing and a miss for the last out of the game and Bulls win!!

Hitting for the bulls on Thursday nights game was back in action as the team put up 10 hits with giant homeruns coming from Ryan Pouwells and Brock Frenzel.

“I was guessing slider and that’s what he threw me, I got a good piece and knew right away it was gone” Ryan Pouwells comments after the game.

Brock Frenzel has been on a hot streak being 5 for his last 6 with 2 doubles and a homerun; Frenzel has been a big part of the Bull’s offense and has been seeing the ball very well lately.  Newcomer Mike Moffatt has been heating up, on Wednesday night he homered and during last nights game was 2 for 4 with a stolen base. Another notable mention for the bulls offense was Mitch Dornblut who has been a little off his normal self lately is also starting to heat up going 2 for 5 with two timely hits that started a Bulls rally. Ryan Pouwells, Lachan Mayo, Brock Frenzel, Dominic Mercurio, and Brian Ray evenly distributed all 5 RBI’s.

“The team played well tonight, despite a few calls later in the game that didn’t go our way the boys held it in check, played hard-nosed baseball and came out with the victory” said Coach Ryan Macdonald after the game.

The Bulls played tight defense the whole game despite the lack ground balls the infield unit is used to seeing. Pitching dominated the game with strikeouts accumulating to a total of 14 between the pitching staff. Outfielder Mike Moffatt had a great catch at the wall in a key part of the game to crush Melville offensive spirits. Plays like these are why the Bulls are so successful in limiting runs against in the beginning of the season.

After the game the Bulls drove 30 minutes back to Yorkton and are very excited to take on Yorktons ace, Kody Rock, at 7:05 Friday night start time. The Bulls have been on a 3 game winning streak and fans can stay tuned on our twitter @lethbridgebulls for updates on the game tonight!!!
