Bulls Top Melville 5-2 to Move to 6-1!

06/09/2016 10:54 AM -

The Bulls headed 30 minutes down the road to Melville on Wednesday night to take on the Millionaires. It was a closely contested ball game all night, and when the dust settled the Bulls came away with a 5-2 victory to move them to 6-1 on the season and 2-0 on their Saskatchewan road trip.

Nate Lainhart made his second start of the season for the Bulls, and just like his first outing in Brooks, Lainhart was dominant. Lainhart was all around the strike zone on Wednesday night. In seven innings of work Lainhart threw 92 pitches, 64 of those pitches for strikes. He was clean through 6 innings of work before giving up his only run of the night in the bottom of the 7th inning. All told Lainhart went 7 innings with 5 hits against, one earned run and struck out 4 Melville hitters. Lainhart moved to 2-0 early on in the season and his ERA now sits at 0.64. Second year Bull Matt Beaton made his return to the team on Wednesday night pitching a scoreless 8th inning striking out 2 of the 3 batters he faced. Tommy Garland picked up his 1st save of the season in the 9th inning.

On the other side of the ball it took the Bulls a few innings to get going, but once they did the game was never really in doubt. The Bulls opened the scoring in the top of the 5th inning with an RBI single by Nolan Handley, his 8th RBI of the season. Handley is now hitting at a .435 clip for the Bulls through 7 games. The Bulls scored 3 in the top of the 7th capped by a 2 run shot by new addition Mike Moffatt. Moffat arrived in Saskatchewan earlier in the day, and immediately made his presence felt with the no doubter to left center field. Ryan Pouwells hit his second triple in as many days in the 8th inning to push the lead to 5-1. Brock Frentzel chipped in going 3-4 with 2 runs scored, raising his average to .348 on the season. The Bulls had 9 hits on the evening compared to 5 by the Millionaires.

The Bulls will continue their Saskatchewan road trip tonight when they take on the Melville Millionaires again. Game time is 7:05pm.
