Bulls Take Game 1 8-2

08/03/2015 3:28 PM -

The Bulls started the playoffs off in style on Sunday night. On a beautiful summer evening at Spitz Stadium the Bulls downed the Swift Current Indians 8-2 to take a 1-0 lead in the first round best of 5 series.  Kyle Olliges started on the mound and was outstanding over 8 innings. Olliges surrendered 5 hits, 1 ER and struck out 4 Indian batters. As has been the case this season Kyle was able to pitch deep into the ball game for the Bulls giving them a chance to win. Veteran Jake Hansen pitched a dominant 9th inning. Hansen has now had 4 straight outings without allowing a run in relief. He has only given up 1 hit over those 6 innings while striking out 9 opposing hitters.

On offense the Bulls capitalized on two Swift Current errors to score 5 runs. The boys didn’t look back after that. Cody Steward was 2-5 with a run scored in the leadoff spot. Stewart also made a fantastic sliding grab against the right centre field in the 5th inning to stop the Indians from scoring. Travis Steinke was 2-3 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI’s including a homerun off the Bulls clock in left field in the bottom of the 7th inning.

The Bulls will look to take a 2-0 advantage in the series Monday night at Spitz Stadium. Luc Hebert will be on the mound for the Bulls. Game time is 7:05 pm at Spitz Stadium.
