Bulls Use Long Ball to Down Edmonton 9-0

06/16/2015 2:29 PM -

The Bulls bounced back after a tough loss on Saturday by routing the Prospects 9-0.  The boys used the long ball to avoid losing 3 straight games for the first time this season. After not being able to muster a run through 12 innings on Saturday, the Bulls jumped out to an early 4-0 lead after the first inning, capped by a 3 run homerun by catcher Travis Steinke. Steinke now leads the WMBL with 3 homeruns, and is tied for the league lead in RBI’s with 13.  The score remained 4-0 until the 4th inning. Brandon Bufton came to the plate with the bases loaded, and promptly cleared them with a grand slam to extend the Bulls lead to 8-0.  Bufton and Steinke accounted for all 9 of the Bulls RBI’s on the afternoon. Steinke finished the day 2-4 with 4 RBI’s and Bufton 2-5 with 5 RBI’s.

On the mound for the Bulls, second year pitcher Luc Hebert was excellent. He finished the afternoon going 7 innings, surrendering no runs and scattered 7 hits. Hebert now moves to 2-1 on the season with a 1.84 ERA in 14.2 innings. First year pitcher Andrew Grieder threw a scoreless 8th inning and veteran Jake Hansen saw his first action on the mound in quite sometime pitching a scoreless 9th inning. Hansen had been sidelined with some shoulder stiffness, but was effective in his first outing back. Look for him to be in the back end of the Bulls bullpen going forward this season.

The Bulls return to action Tuesday against the Yorkton Cardinals in Yorkton. The Bulls will return home Friday June 26th when they take on the Medicine Hat Mavericks.
