The Lethbridge Bulls finished up their first Saskatchewan road trip of the year this week. The boys finished with a 2-1 record. On Wednesday the Bulls squared off against the Swift Current Indians, and came away with a 6-1 victory. Starting pitcher Pat Kelley went 8 strong innings scattering 7 hits, 1 run, 1 walk and 4 strikeouts to improve to 2-0 early in the season. A relatively light hitting game, Mason Shifflett collected 2 RBI’s on the evening. The Bulls took advantage of the Indians 10 walks on the night en route to the victory.
Thursday the Bulls traveled to Regina for the first game of a two game set against the Red Sox. The boys came away with an 8-5 win, in a back and forth game. John Cavness started the game and cruised through the first six innings not allowing a Regina run. He found himself in a little trouble in the 7th and Reno Dupuis came in behind him in relief. Cavness finished the night going 6 2/3 innings allowing 2 ER, on 9 hits while striking out 5. The Bulls jumped out to an early lead in the game. Heading to the 7th inning they were up 5-0. Regina fought back to make it 5-5 after 3 runs in the 7th and 2 more in the 8th. The Bulls took the lead for good in the 9th however. Travis Steinke knocked in 2 with a single and Chris Stodolka finished the game on the mound to give the Bulls the victory.
The final game of the road trip also came against the Regina Red Sox. The Bulls dropped a game that was much closer than the 6-1 score would indicate. Once again the Bulls bats were quiet on the night, recording only 6 hits. Pitcher Kyle Olliges pitched 5 1/3 innings giving up 2 runs and striking out 4.
The Bulls will host the Edmonton Prospects at home Saturday at 7:05 and Sunday at 2:05 at Spitz Stadium.
