The Lethbridge Bulls walked off the Brooks Bombers in a game for the ages by a score of 13-12.
Coming into the game, the Lethbridge Bulls knew they needed a victory, as they currently find themselves in a batlle for the final playoff spot with the Fort McMurray Giants, who visit Spitz Stadium this weekend (July 20, 21, 22).
With the Bulls leading 9-2 heading into the eighth inning, the game seemed to be all but said and done as they sat with the comfortable lead and all the momentum on a night where the promotion said it all, "Guaranteed Win Night". It looked like a sure victory, so fans would not be leaving the stadium with a free ticket to a future Bulls game.
That's when things turned around and the Brooks Bombers scored six-runs in their half of the eighth to tie the game, suddenly giving fans "hope" of leaving the stadium with a free ticket.
Shutting down the Bulls in the bottom half of the inning, the Bombers took the lead in the ninth 12-9 and stole all the momentum in the game off of pitching and defensive woes by the Bulls, leaving the crowd silenced.
With little hope, Lethbridge completed a comeback of their own, tying the game 12-12 off of a series of hits. With the winning run on third, second baseman, Ashton Roy saw an opportunity for a victory as he busted down the third base line to home plate after a wild pitch by Bombers pitcher, Connor Hillburn. With a head first slide into home, and the tag coming in late, Roy saw himself in the midst of a walk-off celebration as he just gave his team the victory.
Roy had three hits in the game as well as three runs scored, including the winning run.
Kaleb Warden provided fans with fireworks as he crushed a monster two-run home run to right field, finishing the game with two hits and two RBI. Dylan Borman also drove in two runs in the winning cause.
Jaret Semeniuk was the player of the night, going 5-for-5 with one run scored and one RBI.
Chris Stodolka received the victory as he pitched the end of the ninth, giving him his third victory of the WMBL season.
The next Bulls home game is Wednesday, July 18th at 7:05pm at Spitz Stadium, as we host Country 95 Country Night!
