Under The Lights Sports & Entertainment, Prairie Baseball Academy and VisitLethbridge.com is pleased to announce the Keith Jorgensen Memorial Baseball Tournament which will be held October 5-8 in Lethbridge & Vauxhall. Games in Lethbridge will be played at both Spitz Stadium and Lloyd Nolan Yard. The double round robin, five inning format will feature 12 teams from 8 baseball academies in Alberta. This tournament is a showcase for some of the outstanding young talent in the province and a great way to finish the fall baseball season.
The tournament pays tribute to Keith Jorgensen who passed away last year. Keith had a tremendous passion for baseball and played a significant role in the development and success of the Prairie Baseball Academy. For Keith it was all about giving kids a chance to play the game. This event is a perfect representation of that vision.
Keith’s wife of 50 years, Beverly says that he would be excited and humbled that a provincial tournament of this magnitude would be named after him.
“Baseball was probably his first love. Because he was a teacher, he wanted to inspire young kids to love the game as much as he did and as a result have a greater joy of life.”
With an emphasis on getting competitive games for all entrants each team will play roughly 30 innings over the course of the tournament. There will be a nominal charge at the gate for each game.
Opening ceremonies will take place on Thursday October 6 at 6pm at Spitz Stadium. Anyone who has ever known Keith or has benefited from his tremendous contributions over the years is encouraged to come out and show your support.
